Our online calendar has been extended to our Collective Directory for our community’s virtual programming. Our mission is to share space, and if it can’t be physical right now, we’ll keep creating together as we ride out this wave.

While we practice social distancing, we’ll be reflecting on our gatherings from October 2019-March 2020 at Amsterdam Collective.

DUHIRWE RUSHEMEZA: RESIDUUM; Join us for a pop-up presentation of some recent and archive pieces at the Amsterdam Collective Gallery for artist Duhirwe Rushemeza’s birthday weekend. Sunday January 19, 3-7pm at 1608 Amsterdam Ave. between 139th and 140th.

Duhirwe Rushemeza employs layers of acrylic under an intricate geometric pattern that become bright anonymous abstraction through the final sanding. Constructed with industrial materials like thin-set mortar, concrete, acrylic, and metal detritus, these works reflect the constant sense of non-belonging and need to make meaning, home, wherever one lands.
