Empire State Casper: Marco Da Silva Mixed Media Exhibition

Amsterdam collective is pleased to present Empire State Casper a solo exhibition of sculptural paintings by Marco DaSilva. In this collection of work, DaSilva has glued plastic rhinestones onto multiple canvases combined to create the shape of the Empire State Building. The buildings combined produce a mythological depiction of the New York City Skyline. These works are painted on top of with layers of house paint, displaying symbol based imagery inspired by former lovers and unrequited desire. Influenced by carnival and pop aesthetics, these works are an exploration of both loss and celebration.

"EVERYBODY EATS PBJ & FULL" Art by Taurean Davis

  • Google Calendar ICS

" EVERYBODY EATS PBJ & FULL"  is a event I wanted to have in order to help those dealing with hunger, and raise awareness for human appreciation for all. I aim to inspire all with my actions. So they too can use their talents, passions, and ideas to make a difference. If it's a big change or small change it's still a change and a step in the right direction. Always remember to lead with love.

"This is a issue I know first hand and I will use my talents to help make a difference, This is a call for action. So I ask everyone to play your part and help quiet the sounds of hungry stomachs. Even if it's just for one night."

Open call for Interviews about Climate Change Experiences

Tower Climate Change Interview Project

Seeking people for Sari Nordman’s Tower video project! All languages welcome and appreciated.

“The 4 meter tall tower is constructed of wire mesh cubes and each cube frames plastic waste. The design was made in collaboration with architect Robert Mencarini, and was first built at Catwalk Art Residency, NY in September 2019. (More images @ https://sarinordman.com/snfilms/tower)
The production reflects on the climate change, and I am looking to interview people discussing environmental changes that they have experienced in their lives. These interviews spoken in the interviewee’s native tongue are filmed and will be projected on the plastic waste inside each cube.

The presentation of environmental contemplation and anxieties will be viewed through architecture, video and performance, and I am hoping that through this work the viewers can hear a unified voice speaking of the concern for environmental changes and calling for action.

I look forward to hearing and filming your story on Sunday February 23rd!”

Duhirwe Rushemeza: "Residuum"

  • Google Calendar ICS

DUHIRWE RUSHEMEZA: RESIDUUM; Join us for a pop-up presentation of some recent and archive pieces at the Amsterdam Collective Gallery for artist Duhirwe Rushemeza’s birthday weekend. Sunday January 19, 3-7pm at 1608 Amsterdam Ave. between 139th and 140th.

*Also by appointment Sunday morning until Tuesday night.* (Click here to contact for appointment)

Duhirwe Rushemeza employs layers of acrylic under an intricate  geometric pattern that become bright anonymous abstraction through the final sanding. Constructed with industrial materials like thin-set mortar, concrete, acrylic, and metal detritus, these works reflect the constant sense of non-belonging and need to make meaning, home, wherever one lands.
